Phog Allen becomes head coach

Forrest 'Phog' Allen, a student of Naismith, took over as head coach in 1907 (after a brief stint in 1905-07) and coached for 39 seasons, becoming one of the most influential figures in basketball history. He led KU to its first national championship game in 1940 and won the NCAA title in 1952.
