The University of Alabama, founded in 1831 in Tuscaloosa, is the flagship of the University of Alabama System and one of the oldest public universities in the nation. With over 38,000 students, Alabama offers more than 70 undergraduate programs and is particularly renowned for its business, engineering, and communication programs. Alabama's athletic program, known as the Crimson Tide, is among the most successful in college sports history. The football program has won 18 national championships, including six under legendary coach Nick Saban. Bryant-Denny Stadium, one of the largest in the country, creates an electric atmosphere on game days.
